If you have a car with brakes, it’s important to clean them regularly. Brakes work by slowing or stopping the car. If they’re not clean, the friction between the brake pads and the rotors can cause them to wear out prematurely, which could lead to brake failure. Here’s how to clean your brakes:
- Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
- Remove the wheel and tire.
- Remove the brake caliper by unscrewing it from the rotor. Be careful not to pinch your fingers in between the caliper and rotor!
- Clean all of the dust, dirt, and debris off of the brake pads and rotors using a vacuum cleaner or a brush attachment on your hose attachment for your garden hose. Make sure to get into all of the crevices!
- Replace the brake caliper and screw it back onto the rotor carefully so that it is flush with both surfaces. Reinstall wheel and tire, reattach parking brake cable, and start your engine. ..
