In Photoshop, you can create text layers to help organize and control your images. A text layer is a layer that contains text. You can use the same tools and techniques you use to create other types of layers, such as a photo or image map, to create a text layer. To create a text layer in Photoshop, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the Create a new Layer button on the left side of the Photoshop window.
  2. Type a name for your new layer and click OK.
  3. In the Layers palette, click the New Layer button again and choose Text from the drop-down list.
  4. Type some basic words or phrases into the Text field and click OK. The default font for this type of layer is Arial, but you can change it if you want to use a different font or typeface.
  5. Click OK again to close the Text Layer dialog box and return to your image document.
