If you’re like most people, you probably don’t enjoy painting your car. It’s tedious, time-consuming, and often results in a paint job that’s not as good as it could be. But there are ways to make the process easier and to achieve better results. One way to lighten paint is to use a sanding sponge. Start by sanding the entire surface of the car with medium grit sandpaper. Then switch to a finer grit and sand until the paint is just slightly less than smooth. This will remove some of the excess paint and make it easier to apply a new coat of paint. Another way to lighten paint is with an airless sprayer. First, clean the area you want to spray with acetone or lacquer thinner. Then prime the area with a suitable primer such as Rustoleum’s Primer Plus for Metal or Zinsser’s Primer Plus for Plastic. Finally, use an airless sprayer to apply your chosen lightening agent such as Flex Seal’s Lightening Fast Foam or 3M’s Fast-Fix Adhesive Spray Paint (both available at hardware stores). ..
