If you’re like most people, you probably have a ton of paths in Illustrator that you never use. Maybe they’re paths that are leftover from when you were creating a design years ago and you don’t need them anymore, or maybe they’re paths that you created to create a specific effect but now you no longer need them. Whatever the case may be, it’s time to release all those unused paths! There are a few different ways to do this, and the method that works best for you will depend on the type of path that you have. However, in general, there are three steps that will help release all your compound paths:

  1. Select the path(s) that you want to release.
  2. Choose Edit > Release Compound Paths.
  3. If necessary, adjust the settings in the Release Compound Paths dialog box (see below). ..
