If you’re like most people, you probably keep photos and videos on your Android phone and tablet. But if you want to move them to a thumb drive, there are a few steps you need to take. First, make sure your phone is rooted. This means that you can’t use the stock Android operating system and must install a custom one. If your phone is not rooted, follow these steps to root it:

  1. Head to the Google Play Store and search for " rooting tools ." Once found, click on the link in the results list and follow the instructions onscreen.
  2. Once rooted, install the following app: " ADB sideload ." ADB sideloading is necessary because Android Marshmallow does not allow apps from outside of Google’s own store to be installed without first being signed with a key. (This is different from iOS where apps from Apple’s App Store are allowed.) Follow these instructions: a) Type " adb sideload -v 1.5" into a command prompt window and hit enter; b) Type " reboot " into the command prompt window and hit enter; c) Type " adb push /data/local/tmp/com.android.providers.telephony_3_5_0_signed .apk /sdcard/Android/data/*; d) Type " adb push /data/local/tmp/.config/.android-telephony-3-5-0-signed .config /sdcard/Android; e) Reboot your device; f) Open a new terminal window (on Windows or Mac), type " adb shell pm list com.android .providers .telephony_3_5_0_signed ; g) Type " pm list com.android .providers .telephony_3_5_0_signed | grep ‘com.android.’ ; h) You should see something like this:
