If you’re like most people, you probably use Adobe Illustrator to create logos, illustrations, and other graphics. But what if you want to vectorize an image—that is, turn it into a series of geometric shapes that can be used in your designs? There are a few different ways to do this. The easiest way is to use the Pathfinder tool. With the Pathfinder tool active, click and drag one of the image’s corners so that it becomes a square. Then hold down the Shift key and click and drag one of the other corners so that it becomes a perfect square. (If you don’t have Illustrator installed on your computer, you can download a free trial here.) Now select all four squares by clicking on them once with the Selection tool (A). Then go to Object > Path > Make Path. In the resulting dialog box, enter 1 in the “Width” field and 0 in the “Height” field (or whatever width and height you want for your path). Click OK. Your path should now look like this: You can now use this path to create vectors using any of Illustrator’s vector tools—such as the Vector Tools (V), Polygonal Lasso Tool (L), or Bezier Tool (B). Just make sure that you set your paths’ properties accordingly: In the Paths panel (Window > Paths), set “Path Type” to “Bezier Curve.” And in the Options bar for your selected vector tool, set “Path Length” to 1/1000000th of an inch (.000001 inches). That should do it! ..
